5 Reasons to Try a Pilates Circuit Class
If you’ve ever wanted to explore more of the Pilates apparatus but weren’t sure where to start, a Circuit Class is the perfect way to experience it all. Moving through different pieces of equipment—the Reformer, Tower, Chair, and Barrels—offers a dynamic, whole-body experience that builds strength, mobility, and awareness.
Here’s why we think you’ll love it:
1. Experience the full range of Pilates apparatus
Each piece of equipment in a Pilates Circuit Class offers something unique. The springs on the Tower, Reformer, and Chair provide resistance to strengthen and support your joints, while the pulleys on the Reformer encourage smooth, controlled movement to ease tension and discomfort. And when you arc over the Ladder Barrel or Pilates Arc, you’ll feel your spine gently opening, improving posture and releasing tightness.
The ladder barrel is a great piece of equipment to counterbalance the effects of modern-day life slumping over computers and phones.
2. A deeply mindful practice
Like all our classes at Lauren Hilton Pilates, this goes far beyond just movement. Working with the Pilates apparatus requires focus, precision, and presence—bringing a mindful element that helps to centre and calm you. As you refine your awareness in class, you may find it becomes easier to carry that same sense of balance and clarity into daily life.
3. A practice that always evolves
With so many pieces of apparatus and an incredible variety of exercises, no two classes ever feel the same. Even after years of practice, there’s always something new to discover—an adjustment, a sensation, or a shift in understanding. Pilates is a lifelong practice, and the Circuit Class keeps it fresh, engaging, and endlessly rewarding.
Lauren provides hands-on support for clients during a Pilates Equipment circuit class.
4. Gentle support, real change
On first look, the apparatus may look a little complex, but it’s there to help you move better. Each piece of equipment provides feedback to your body, giving your muscles the input they need to move more efficiently. This stimulation helps retrain your nervous system, creating long-lasting improvements in how you move and feel.
5. A deep dive into your body’s potential
Over a 6-7 week circuit, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how your body moves—its strengths, its limitations, and its incredible ability to adapt and improve. This kind of awareness is empowering; when we truly know our bodies, we can move through life with more ease, confidence, and trust in our capabilities.
How it works
In each 60-minute class, you’ll be part of a small group of four, rotating through different Pilates apparatus in 15-minute segments. You’ll complete three exercises on each piece of equipment before moving to the next, with our certified teachers Lauren or Tish guiding and supporting you throughout.
As a group class, the Pilates Circuit is ideal for those with some experience in movement, but if you’re working through an injury or need a more tailored approach, we recommend starting with a 1:1 session.
