How to maintain your regular Pilates practice

- Our top tips to stop those good movement habits slipping as we head into summer

If you’re reading this blog then I don’t need to convince you of the benefits of Pilates as you’ll already be enjoying them!  As the summer months approach often our routines and habits change; kids off school and the return of holidays abroad (yay!) can mean our daily flow changes.  When it comes to maintaining strength, flexibility and keeping pain or niggles at bay, consistency is the key and when routines change this consistency can be harder to achieve.

Here are a few ways you can stay accountable to your Pilates practice:

How much time do you have?

It may usually be an hour but in the summer is that realistic? If it’s just 15 minutes that you have, then this 15 minutes of mindful movement is better than none at all.

Prepare in advance

Set out your Pilates kit the night before, make your mat and Pilates kit the first thing you see in the morning!

List all the positive feelings/benefits you have after a Pilates class

Write these down on a post-it note and stick it somewhere you can see it so you can remind yourself how good you can feel.

Here are mine: calmer, less tightness in my ribs and hips and more confident

Book it in!

If you’re practicing alone only you are accountable, set an alarm and book out the time in your calendar, if you’ve got young children can a partner supervise them for 20 minutes or could the kids hit the mat with you?!

Joseph Pilates intended his method to be practiced daily so that it became ‘a way of life’ and that the benefits of Pilates could move well beyond the physical. The strength that we can gain from Pilates helps us to have a stronger and more centered mind which in turn will help us manage lives ups and downs.

We built our online Pilates platform as a response to the pandemic and since then it has evolved and grown in order to give you the most amount of flexibility for your practice.  We know from our years of teaching thousands of bodies that we are all incredibly different (thank goodness!), that means that a ‘one size fits all’ approach doesn’t work.  On our beautiful new platform, you can focus on what you like or what your body needs.  From Pelvic health to Pilates for desk workers or short workouts to legs and abs there is something that will suit you and your body.

There are lots of reasons why practicing Pilates online might suit you, complementing, or in place of studio classes. Here's a few:

1. It's super convenient - form new habits

Life can be hectic, so exercising at home means no travel time or scheduled class. You can practice Pilates whenever and wherever you like, no matter the time of day (or night). Practicing Pilates at home is super convenient, which means it's more likely to become a habitual part of daily life!

2. It gives you flexibility and choice

We've created a wide variety of classes for short and longer workouts to fit your schedule and different focuses to suit your mood or focus. You'll feel the benefits from Lauren's tuition as if you'd attended a class.

3. Enjoy the freedom to learn and improve

Pilates is essentially about re-educating your body, and undoing the damage that stress and immobility can inflict. You can pause, rewind or repeat videos and concentrate on technique at your own pace. And at home, no one's watching so you're free to move and redo it as you master new moves. You can also wear whatever you like, Pilates in your PJs anyone?! 😉

4. Make time to focus on you

Pilates is more than a physical exercise, it can radically enhance our mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing too. Gift yourself regular time to focus on your whole self - even a few minutes a day will make a difference!

5. Cost-effective investment

Pilates At Home membership is incredibly cost-effective as you can repeat all classes as often as you like, so in fact, the more you do the cheaper it becomes per session! A little bit every day is at the core of the Pilates philosophy.

We have just launched our brand new cost-effective Pilates At Home Annual Membership, which gives you 2 months free!  It's available to everyone including our existing monthly subscribers.
